hello! okay i know i haven't been here - life is crazy busy! however, since returning from the cruise i have been following the ww plan very well (mostly there was one minor fast food meltdown that lasted a couple of days, i won't lie)! i'm not going to post all my foodstuffs every day anymore here, it gets redundant as i do them all on the weight watchers website. i will, however, be posting about successes and failures and struggles and awesome recipes and adventures in exercising, etc. so stop by once in awhile and check it out!
so i really love the ww website tools. every morning i sit down and plan out what i'm going to eat for the day, enter it into the tracker and see what i need to take out or add in to meet my daily "points" requirement. (for those of you unfamiliar, every food has a points value based on fat, calories, and fiber). i usually try to start out with dinner and work my way backward, but since i enter it all into the online tracker i don't always have to do that.
take today, for instance. tonight i am taking my friend out for sushi to celebrate his birthday. sushi happens to be a very "inexpensive" food (aka: low in points), if you avoid things that are fried or covered in mayo. because i know i LOVE sushi (and the mayo!) and because i know my friend is a big eater and we will be splitting the rolls (but probably many rolls), i thought about what to eat during the day before dinner to allow me extra points this evening.
so it goes something like: breakfast: 1/4 cup eggbeaters mixed with onions, mushrooms, peppers, and tomatoes (veggies are 0pts) and 1/4 brown rice (i don't normally add brown rice but i had all this rice that's going to go bad if i don't eat it), topped with a slice of vegetarian cheese. add in an apple. total points = 4
lunch: salad with tomatoes, mushrooms, peppers, 1/4 cup corn (0.5pt), 1/4 black bean (0.5pt), and 3.15 oz flank steak for a total of 6 points (including dressing).
dinner: tons and tons of sushi ;) sushi is pretty low. start with cucumber salad with crab is a good way to get in some substance with not a lot of points (although i LOVE the mayo they use and am not going to skimp on it). the fresh salmon is only 2pts for 2 pieces which is awesome. and some of the rolls aren't too bad either. all in all i may just slightly go over my points allowance for the day, but that's okay because i have the 35 "flex" points for the week.
went to my first meeting in forever this past thursday. my brother is on a mission to lose 30lbs before his wedding and asked for my help. amazingly enough, i'd only gained ONE POUND since i stopped doing the program back in february. given the cruise and the fast food relapse, that surprised me. of course, i've been "back on plan" since returning from the cruise and have dropped 8lbs since then alone, so i suppose i hadn't only "gained" 1lb... i'd gained 9 and have since lost 8. so that's good - i feel really great about that!
and i feel SO MUCH BETTER physically and mentally too! and i've really been enjoying cooking and preparing my meals and planning my menus for the day and all that stuff.
it's amazing when you really stop to think about portions and the choices we make... |

Monday Foodstuffs:
Breakfast: Morning Egg Beater Scramble (1/2 cup Egg Beaters, tomatoes, mushrooms, kale) = 1 1/2 item VitaMuffin All Natural Cranbran Muffin = 1
Snack: 1 medium orange(s) = 1
Lunch: Lean Cuisine Panini = 6 1 serving Zero POINTS® Value-Vegetable Soup = 0
Dinner: 1-1/3 serving Beef and Vegetable Cheese Casserole = 9 1-1/2 cup fat-free skim milk = 2.5 2 cup cooked broccoli = 0 1 Tbsp balsamic vinegar = 0
Snack(s): Dove mini icecream bars = 2 Orville Redenbacher's Gourmet Microwave Popcorn 94% Fat Free Butter, Popped = 2
Randomness: I don't know WHAT was up last night, but I literally woke up this morning and thought to myself, "did I.....?" yes, yes I did. at some point in the evening I woke up, stumbled out to the kitchen, ate two of KSC's mini dove ice cream bars, then stumbled back to bed. WHOOPS!
so the beef and veggie casserole is super yummy, but I put in a little more beef, sauce, and ricotta than the recipe called for so i count each serving i have as 1-1/3 servings instead. makes it a little more "expensive" but at least it's accurate!
apparently i am to make my suddenly famous artichoke dip for the superbowl party. yikes! this is NOT a low fat, low calorie, ww friendly dish! i suppose i could just not eat any. HAHAHAHAHA!
Lost starts again thursday and once again people are coming over to watch. i think i will make a veggie tray with some hummus and maybe a fruit platter as well. something healthy anyway, no fried taquitos and guac! although .... YUM! ;) |

[Jan. 28th, 2008|09:30 am] |
okay, i'm not putting up food, etc. for this weekend. let's just say i blew it on a pretty big scale. Friday was okay, ate healthy all day, had some eggplant parmigian for dinner, but it was soooo yummy i ended up having two pieces which blew my points for the day. to top it off i then proceeded to drink WAY TOO MUCH whiskey and munched some bread crackers for the rest of the evening (we were up until 5am drinking). Saturday was okay, had fish and chips for dinner which is NOT low points, but given i'd only eaten a couple pieces of bread and a tablespoon of peanut butter during the day it wasn't too bad in the long run i guess.
Sunday was COOKING day. I had a nice big salad in the morning and then went out for a bit. came back and cooked cooked cooked! I made a big pot of the 0-point vegetable soup, a vegetable/beef casserole and tried out the slow cooker for the first time making some Captain's Chicken. haven't tried the chicken yet, but the casserole came out well and this batch of soup was the best one yet! i added some tomatos and red pepper flakes and it really amped up the flavor!
So that's that. it's back on track today. no more fish and chips!
HOWEVER - proud moment of the weekend... on our way back from San Francisco on Saturday night the girls stopped off at Taco Bell and ordered a bunch of yummmmy looking tasties. As some of you know Taco Bell is my ALL TIME FAVORITE fast food ('cept maybe In N' Out). I didn't order ANYTHING! Yippee! I know how silly it probably sounds to be proud of that, but I REALLY am proud of it!
28 days fast food free. 28 days mostly soda free (we were doing shots of whiskey with diet coke chasers so I did have some Saturday, but my original "goal" of "no soda" included the "except when drinking" clause, so I am still on the no-soda front! nevermind we were chasing out of shot glasses so all in all I probably only had maybe 1/2 to 3/4 of a can. |

Wednesday Foodstuffs:
Breakfast: Morningstar veggie bites (3 pieces) = 4 VitaMuffin 2oz CranBran = 1 1 small apple(s) = 1
Lunch: Progresso Soup = 4 3 item uncooked skinless chicken wing(s) = 2.5 1 item dinner roll(s) = 3 1/4 cup macaroni and cheese = 2.5
Dinner: 1 serving Applebee's® Onion Soup Au Gratin = 3 1 serving Applebee's® Teriyaki Steak & Shrimp Skewers = 7
Snack: 3 cups movie popcorn, without butter = 3
Randomness: Well I didn't do too well Wednesday. Generally I try to stick with 5pts or less for breakfast, but I really wanted to try the VitaMuffin as I'd searched and searched for them everywhere and then, Wednesday morning, I just happened to stumble upon them at the grocery. YUM! and the VeggieBites, while "expensive" in points, are YUMMY! Lunch was also an exercise in low willpower and lack of self-control in part. I had to go to a luncheon for work and the woman REFUSED to let me get away with not eating anything. I thought by taking salad, a couple small wings, a roll and just a teeeeeny-tinnnny scoop of mac n' cheese I'd be okay. Eat that and go back to the office for some soup. Well, turns out someone accidentally ate my soup and before I realized I was not eating the 0pt (2 for the can) Progesso it was too late. I can't BELIEVE that ONE roll is 3pts! so I had a VERY "expensive" lunch that day. Followed it up with a good WW meal at Applebee's (the boy very sweetly suggested we go there instead of one of our usual haunts as he knows they have the WW menu). Then continued to blow the day with popcorn at the movie. The good news is my "Flex points" (you get 35 extra points a week to use or not use however you wish) reset on Thursday and I had not used even close to all of them. So while I went over a couple days, I was still perfectly on plan as I'd not gone over my flexies.
Thursday Foodstuffs
Breakfast: Egg Beater Sandwich = 2.5 (2 slices light bread, 1/2 C eggbeaters, 2 slices tomato, 1 slice onion, 1 tsp reduced calorie mayo, 1 tsp ketchup) 1 cup fat-free skim milk = 2
Lunch: 1 GardenBurger = 3.5 (Garden Burger patty, 2 slices light bread, 1 tsp ketchup, 1 tsp honey mustard, 1/2 Tbs pickle relish, 1 tsp reduced cal. mayo, 1 slice onion, 2 slices tomato, 1/2 C lettuce) 1-1/2C Trader Joe's Roasted Red Pepper/Tomato soup = 3
Dinner: 1-1/2 C Steamed broccoli = 0 3/4 C Bottled Spaghetti Sauce = 2.5 1-1/2 C Whole Wheat pasta = 4.5
Snacks: TWO servings Jell-O Sugar Free pudding chocolate/vanilla swirl = 2.5
Randomness: Well I didn't eat all my points yesterday, though I ate A LOT. that I had TWO of the jello pudding snacks is a little silly, but my mouth hurt a lot from the horrible dentist appt and it felt really good to mush something soft and cool onto my gums. Okay, sorry that was probably gross, but TRUE! plus i was starving before dinner but my mouth was so sore i couldn't eat anything. i guess i could've stuck with one, but oh well! I was still under points which is bad bad bad on plan! |

Tuesday Foodstuffs
Breakfast: 1 packet Quaker Oats Instant oatmeal weight control - maple brown sugar = 3 1 small apple(s) = 1
Lunch: Salad (Salsa Salad Bag Mix) = 3 Lean Cuisine (chicken tuscan) = 5
Dinner: Salad (Salsa Salad Bag Mix = 4 1 serving Shrimp and Chicken Jambalaya = 9 1-1/2 cup fat-free skim milk = 2.5
Randomness: well... yesterday was weird. I had planned on having the Shrimp/Chicken Jambalaya with some broccoli or roasted asparagus, but then nothing sounded worse than going to the store after work for the asparagus. and honestly? despite having one of those "steam it in the bag" bags of broccoli (I've never tried that, the salad was just easier. After a very long and somewhat hellacious day at work I was just completely worn out and exhausted. No joke! I laid down to read about 6pm and woke up around 9:45! got up and talked with the roomie for about 1/2 an hour and then went back to bed, read for a bit and fell back asleep. then i woke up an hour late! wtf? |

[Jan. 22nd, 2008|08:07 am] |
i'm not going to go all the way back and start again from my last post. aside from a pizza snafu friday night (yes, again - i can't resist the pizza!), i've still been right on track. in fact, i've even inspired my roommate to start trying the program. i never said anything to her other than i was back on plan, but she's seen how healthy (and yummy!) i've been eating and has decided she, too, would like to learn a healthier, more portion controlled way of eating. so beginning next week i'll be helping her and cooking up the tasty meals for two! yay!
in any event...
( Saturday foodstuffs )
Random: again the movies did me in. actually not really, the boy did me in. i had not purchased anything to eat at the movies knowing we would be going out to eat later. but then the boy appeared with a HUGE bag of popcorn to share and an icee (my favorite) for me. blah! i had to dip into my "flex-points" (the 35 extra you can choose to spread throughout the week). i tried to make a good choice at dinner, but i'm not sure i made the best choice. i thought salmon was much lower in points! i also have no idea about the true nature of all those points/portions at dinner, but i did my best.
( sunday foodstuffs )
Random: Well, we went out to breakfast and WOW! Instead of my usual "ala mexciana omlette" that is filled wtih spicey ground beef, cheese cheese cheese, at least 3 eggs, and sour cream (and comes with hashbrowns and bread, though i rarely eat the bread), I really tried to stick OP (on plan) when roomie and I went to breakfast. Instead of my standard adventure in deliciousness, I ordered a vegetarian egg-beater omlette (no cheese) off their "low-carb" menu. No, I'm not doing low carb, but YUM! i didn't even miss my good ole standby. The omlette was delicious, and I felt quite satisfied after eating all that fruit and sliced tomato. Good job Chelle! I actually managed to really put the effort out there AGAIN when going out to eat. I'm very proud of myself for that because it's haaaaaard. Especially when you are going somewhere you are used to going and ordering a heavy-fat-calorie laden but oh so yummy dish! In the end I ended up being WAAAAY under points this day as we went to breakfast late and I didn't have lunch.
( Monday foodstuffs )
Random: My folks went to a big ole crab feed at one of the local golf courses Sunday. After dinner the kitchen sells all the leftover crab to whoever wants it - $5.00 for a bag containing 4-5lbs of fresh fresh fresh crab legs, etc (gotta crack it yourself). Now, I am a HUGE seafood lover (HUUUUUGE) and fresh crab.... mmmm...... so much better than Krab-with-a-K! so they invited myself and my roommate over for dinner last night to dine on the crab they brought back from the feed. we had big salads and piled it on, put some in the pasta, ate ate ate! the good thing about eating crab is it takes so long to pick it all out you don't end up eating quite as much as you might were it already picked over, etc. I don't know exactly how to figure the points for the louie dressing my mom made, so i just threw in the mayo and ketchup into the points calculator as a guess. mmmm... it was SO YUMMY! and crab is not as "expensive" as salmon apparently is. i was really surprised at the points for that salmon filet. i need to double check my materials at home and see if that's correct.
Fun Details: in other news, i did not go to my meeting last thursday due to my horrible dentist appt. and i won't be able to go this thursday as i have horrible dentist appt. part deux. but according to MY scale (and my scale doesn't show what , i am down 9.6lbs! and as a NSV (non-scale victory) - THREE people have mentioned how i look a little slimmer (including my roommate who asked in a somewhat shocked voice the other day when i moseyed out in a tshirt and my old old sweats, "have you lost weight?") AND - today i am wearing a button up shirt that i absolutely love but have been to embarassed to wear due to the fact that the buttons pulled so badly (and i couldn't even button it over my chest). it looks great! though i do have the top two buttons unbuttoned, but that's just to show off the cleavage (yes i have a tank top on). so yay!
oh, and i need a new icon for this LJ, anyone want to help me with that? or suggest a place to find one? i know some of your fitness/health journals have neat little icons, where do you get them?! |

i'm not going to bother logging anything for monday or tuesday. it basically consists of soup, nyquil, and popcorn. and yesterday i had a real (non-subway) turkey deli sandwich. Yum! in any event, i attempted to track, but it was NOT healthy eating (not because it was fat/calorie laden or anything, just because it really was popcorn and soup most of the time). so that's that. so much for the gym again this week. blah. does anyone read this anyway? |
|
|
| still eating, still no gym. |
[Jan. 14th, 2008|07:34 am] |
holy shiznit, i am WAY behind in my food logging (here). i gotta go back to wednesday? blah. i'sm really sick right now (and yet, still at work). since my brain is fogged up and blah, perhaps i'll just do this instead of attempting any sort of task requiring brain function.
( Thursday Goodstuffs )
okay, so that was entirely too much sushi, topped off by that tiny and completely unnecessary slice of cheesecake. sushi always makes me want something sweet. must be all the saltiness. we tried a new sushi place and i was a little disappointed, it wasn't as good as my favorite standby, but it was probably much healthier - none of that YUMMY mayonaise! i tacked on the extra 4pts just cause. i wasn't sure about the other points. but i do know this - you can have A LOT of sushi for NOT alot of points!
( Friday Foodstuffs (wherein Chelle blows it on Old Chicago Pizza) )
welll.... i SWORE to myself i was only going to have ONE slice of pizza when we went out . but i blew it at lunch anyway, i was supposed to have the soup and some veggies, but someone from the office was going to my favorite salad place and i couldn't resist the call of the caesar. so there was an extra seven points. then we got to old chicago and we were SO GOOD. three of us ordered a medium veggie pizza to split. we were all determined to enjoy our salads and one slice. but the pie came out sliced into six pieces and the three pieces staring the three of us in the face were too irresistible. BUT WORTH IT! that's why the program gives you flex points - 35 extra a week you can either use or not use. i try not to use them, but this week i've been mowing some down...
( Saturday foodstuffs (wherein Chelle is sick and goes crazy on the bread) )
okay, no more trader joe's whole wheat sourdough. i do love the stuff, but yikes! three points a slice! i'll stick with my light bread where i get two slices for one point! applebee's WW menu wins again! we were down at the theatre by the mall (saw Sweeny Todd) and the moms invited KSC and I out to applebee's for dinner because she knows it's easy for me to eat there! we ALL ended up ordering stuff off the WW menu! the soup was DELICIOUS!
( Sunday Foodstuffs (wherein Chelle is still sick) )
by no means was sunday a healthy day. given i was ill, nothing sounded good. i actually forced myself to eat that tuna sandwich only because i knew eating a veggie sandwich and a bag of popcorn for the entire day was NOT healthy.
meanwhile i can't get away from the popcorn. crunchy salty goodness (and high volume) for hardly any points. what a great snack! although i should try snacking on veggies and stuff too.
i swore i'd go back to the gym today, but that is obviously not going to happen. i'm just trying to make it until 1:00 this afternoon and then i'm outta here. most of the clients i deal with are in Washington DC and that means the calls come to a grinding halt around 2. figure i can duck out an hour early. or, if i don't get many calls, even earlier. i feel like pooh! |

oh no! how did I get two days behind? oh that's right, i've been busy living life!
( monday's foodstuffs )
They say you have to eat TO YOUR POINTS and i've been consistently under points since I began. And I mean under by about 8 or 9! Which is a lot. My problem is, since I'd gained some weight, I'm alotted more points than the last time I was on program. I've been eating MORE in volume on plan than I was eating off, but I'm eating such healthy stuff. Amazing how much you can eat to equal the points of a nachos bell grande or a carl's junior burger. yikes! As I lose, I will also lose points, but as it stands I'm full ALL DAY LONG and can't imagine stuffing another 9 points into my face. More milk maybe? I don't know.
( Tuesday Foodstuffs )
didn't even come close again to eating all my points despite eating out! Applebee's has a menu designed just for WW, with the points already figured out and included on the menu! what a BREEZE! eating out is rough as i have no idea how to calculate much other than grilled chicken, steamed veggies, brown rice, etc. once they start throwing on sauces and cheese i'm just loooost! in generally i'm not really a applebees/chiles/etc. sort of diner, but YUM! the confetti chicken was AWESOME actually. And i didn't have to figure out the points. AND i left feeling well fed/satisfied with really tasty food. i liked it so much that when i go up to my brother's house for "game night" tonight, i may stop at the Applebee's up there and have dinner (we don't have one in my town). YUM! and SO LOW IN POINTS - i could have the appetizer, the meal AND one of the desserts off their ww menu and just about hit my points target.
i'm a little nervous about weigh in day tomorrow. according to my scale at home i have lost 7.4 lbs since the 2nd (and yes, i'm bad, i still weight myself daily even though according to WW we're not really supposed to but it's good motivation for me!). what makes me sad is this: i weight myself first thing in the morning before i get in the shower when i am, of course, naked. when i go to the meeting tomorrow it will be at the end of the day while i'm still clothed - so their scale won't show that great loss! instead it will show the difference between what i weighed the last meeting i went to (just before thanksgiving) and tomorrow. given i packed on a few pounds in between then, it won't show much of a loss at all.
i think what i will do is continue using my scale in the mornings and then on WI day, i will mark that amount next to whatever amount i had that morning (yes, i write it all down in a little book in my bathroom). at least then i won't walk out tomorrow thinking, ONLY down 0.2!!! but i thought i was down 7! we'll see... really it's a pretty lame thing to worry about. |

( Sunday Foodstuffs )
Randomness: Yesterday was a pretty good day until the evening when I stumbled upon several mini-boxes of nerds a friend had recently given me and ate them. Oh well, now they are gone and I will eat no more! Apparently I was craving sugar sugar sugar!
Today I am hoping to go to the gym, but I just realized I forgot my checkbook and I need to get a money order after work, so I may not be able to make it. HA, on top of that realization I just remembered I haven't yet filled out the paperwork the gym requested. I suppose that means no gym tonight. Maybe I will take a walk instead if it's not raining.
I've been using the WW message boards a lot still. Now that I've finally found the boards I jive with, I've found so many useful hints and tips and support. Yay!
I'm thinking I'll go to a meeting this week. Maybe a Wednesday meeting rather than my usual Thursday. Try out a different group of peeps. |

( Saturday Foodstuffs )
Randomness: Water? not a problem, I've been sucking it down like a fiend!
I went out and bought myself a crock pot/slow cooker yesterday. Another trick to help me out with the whole "having healthy choices" for dinners. I can't wait to try it! The WW boards have a whole slew of recipes to try out. If any of YOU have a favorite healthy crock-pot recipe to share, I'd LOVE that!
Yesterday I made a giant pot of the 0-Points soup as well as another go at the Shrimp & Chicken Jambalaya which is TO DIE FOR. SOOOOOO GOOOOD. Froze a bunch in individual servings for easy access dinners during the week.
I went to the movies last night with the roomie and her sister. I am SO PROUD of myself - I did NOT have a soda (or an icee), I did NOT eat any of the bin candy (oh sour strawberry ribbons how I love you), I did NOT even have any popcorn. Instead I ate dinner just before we left, smuggled in my water bottle and told myself I could have some healthier popcorn at home after the movie when I was finishing my book. And that's JUST what I did! And you know what? I really didn't miss the movie pig out one bit!
I'm feeling really positive and good this go around. This doesn't feel like a diet or a chore, it feels like something positive and great! The WW boards are also very helpful (now that I've found the non-catty/sarcastic ones). I really feel like I'm ready for the change!
I know I've said that before, but with my work on adjusting my outlook/attitude the last couple of months, I think it'll really work this time. I really do!
And the scale has been confirming that in leaps and bounds! |

( Thursday foodstuffs )
Okay so I didn't resist the chocolate in the office today, but it's okay because I still had enough points.
Can I tell you how YUMMY my dinner was? The WW recipe for baked beef ziti is DELICIOUS. Someone on the WW message boards suggested the baked asparagus and it was so easy and delicious too! I'll be bringing some of the leftover ziti to the boy's place tomorrow for us to share and he's going to make some sort of veggie for us. I already separated the leftovers out into individual portions - 2 of which I froze for a day when cooking is just not my thing, 1 which I plan on having probably for lunch on Saturday, and the rest (4 portions) which I'll bring to the boy's house. I'll have 1 serving, he'll probably have two and then I'll just leave the last one for him to enjoy. As good as it was, I can only eat so much!
I am planning on cooking up a storm this weekend. Another batch of zero point soup to have on hand and maybe one or two other items I can eat during the week and freeze to have on hand.
Got in all the water again today. It's not even a problem! I drank a bottle of it before I got to the office and have lost count how many times I refilled it over the course of the day.
It's going well, and I'm feeling great! I can't wait to get back to the gym (if I still have a membership, apparently they had trouble processing last month's payment, I'll swing by tomorrow). |

[Jan. 3rd, 2008|07:29 am] |
well, yesterday was a success! and you know, even just one day in, i'm feeling much better. i think it has more to do with my attitude than anything, but hey! whatever works!
( wednesday foodstuffs )
Water: I totally ROCKED the water drinking. It was easy - you see I have also decided to stop drinking soda. Every year during Lent I give up soda and I tend to drop some pounds, so I figure why not give it up just in general. I'm not saying I will NEVER drink a soda again, but if I don't drink diet coke all day long guess what I do drink? WATER! I drank four bottles of it yesterday for a grand total of about 2800mls. i have no idea what that comes out to be so far as ounces etc., but i do know it's more water than I have probably had in the past week or so combined. And thank goodness for Crystal Light! I tend to dilute it after the first bottle, but just the hint of flavor REALLY helps. i gotta say though, all that water paired with the fact that i started taking my blood pressure medicine again yesterday - i peed like 100000 times! i'm sure none of you needed to know that, but still, it was pretty ridiculous!
Exercise: Still too afraid to go to the gym as my toe is still a bit owie (yay for having regular shoes on today though!). I did take the stairs instead of the elevator here at work whenever I went up/down the stairs, so that's something. Not much really, but something. I think my toe will be better by Monday, so I intend on going back to the gym then.
Randomness: HOLY CRAP! Okay, so I absolutely love and adore the Trader Joe's mixed green with raspberry vinagrette salad. It has tasty cranberries, a little bit of blue cheese, yummy walnuts. It's divine. I have been eating it for awhile thinking, "good job chelle! you're eating healthy!" WRONG WRONG WRONG! The DRESSING for that salad, JUST the DRESSING has 21 grams of fat in it, totaling the salad out with 28grams - I can't even calculate that on my points tracker! Needless to say, when I read the lable last night as I was trying to calculate my points, I was SHOCKED. So I threw the dressing out and used my own light balsamic vinagrette, turning the salad from some ridiculous amount of points to 10. 10 still seems a lot for a salad, but with the cheese and walnuts, i'm not surprised. And i had enough to eat it so *shrug*.
That said - YAY! The Trader Joe's Roasted Red Pepper soup that I absolutely love and adore? Well I was always afraid it'd be really high in points as it's a rather thick soup. NEEEEWP! only 2 points a cup! ROCKIN!
I also started taking a multivitamin geared toward women, some calcium with D, and a B-complex again. I had to throw out my flax seed capsules as they seemed sort of weird. I'm not sure what else are good vitamins to take, but those three seem to be pretty good so far as I can tell.
I have already planned out my meals, etc. for today. I am going to try making the Weight Watchers recipe for Baked Beef Ziti and pair it with a salad of some sort or possibly a nice portion of spinach or kale. Yum!
Oh and GO ME! I never ONCE touched all the crap food/tons and tons of candy here in the office yesterday. Amazing, I really do have some will power! |

ut-oh... it's been awhile! i've been relatively good, but not so great. i guess i left off last tuesday, but i'm not going to go back that far with the foodstuffs. though i have been over my points on several days, i did not exceed my "flex points" (everyone gets 35 extra points to use - or not use - over the course of the week). i rarely use flex points, so i'm not too worried about it. thanksgiving is tomorrow - and THAT worries me a little. mmmmm... appetizers... to help make my "staying on track" a little easier, I offered to bring a veggie tray. the thing with me and thanksgiving is that i don't care for much of the food. i've already plugged what i plan to eat throughout the day into my points tracker and OH MY GOD! if i stick to it, i will get to eat everything i want to eat and still not go over points. assuming i also drink no alcohol ;) either way, our flex-points start again the day of our meeting, which in my case just HAPPENS to be thursday. so i'm good.
i went to my first meeting in FOREVER last week. it's good for me to go to the meetings, it helps keep me accountable. nobody wants to weigh in MORE than they did the previous week (and no, they don't show it to everyone or say your number out loud, it's all very private). i still don't think our meeting leader is the greatest, but it's all good. i have WW buddies now, so it makes it much more tolerable! either way, it felt good to be back. even though we obviously will not have a meeting this week and i will have to miss the following week as i am going to the San Francisco opera.
so i'm going to be brave and give you my food stuffs. we went to santa cruz on sunday and even though i was a little over for the day, i didn't do tooooooooooo terribly bad. okay, it wasn't great, but believe me it could have been MUCH worse (okay, breakfast could NOT have been worse... yikes!)!
( sunday's foodstuffs )
--- so if i count those up it comes out with a lot of points over (if i count up the eggs B without the ham it comes out with less than a lot but still too many points over). i will not berate myself for going over points however, as it could have been much worse. instead of crab cocktail i was gunning for fried calamari. i didn't have fries or anything at the boardwalk AND i actually walked through a candy store with all kinds of homemade chocolate and fudge, etc. and didn't eat anything. so in the end, it wasn't AS bad, and i'm proud of myself for that. just remind me not to order Eggs B anymore! i had no idea hollandaise is THAT high calorie/fat ---

okay, so i was over points on many days. boo to me! but i still didn't go over my flex points, i didn't even use half of my flex points, nor did i factor in any of my earned activity points (you get extra points for exercise but i never EVER use them to eat more, that just feels like a complete waste of sweat and exertion *winks*)
i would like to point out that though i was over yesterday (and i could have avoided being over by not eating the sundae or the focaccia bread), i again still feel proud of myself. it was "roommate tuesday" and we went to pasta pomodoro for dinner (which really wasn't good at all - we are italian food snobs and PP just didn't cut it). rather than ordering my usual lasagna or parmigiana or anything else slathered in cheese and saucy goodness, i opted for the chicken marsala (grilled chicken in a mushroom and wine sauce) and spinach as my side instead of some sort of pasta. it was NOT easy. a big ass bowl of pasta in meat sauce or what have you would've been MUCH more to my liking.
as for the sundae? what can i say? it was a joint effort in falling off track with the roomie and i. i really really really love ice cream and what's better on a chilly fall day than a hot fudge sundae? (i'm weird, i LOVE ice cream on cold days)
but i'm trying.... i'm trying hard this time. i'm determined to go back after this holiday LIGHTER than before. so i'm trying. trying trying trying... |

( today's foodstuffs )
That Beef & Vegetable Casserole is YUMMY! even the boy liked it! perhaps i will post the recipe later when i'm not feeling so lazy ;)
GYM! yes, i went to the gym. i almost didn't go as my head was aching, but i forced myself. pounded on the treadmill for 30 minutes. they haven't moved our circuit stuff over yet, nor have i had an appt. to learn all the new gym's machines, so cardio only. probably better to do that for a week or so to adjust. in any event - i felt GREAT after. and proud of myself for finding the motivation and the attitude change (there's stuff about that in my regular journal)
Water: blah, only one bottle. actually it looks like one and a half. by the end of the night it might be two and a half or three, so that's actually pretty good! |

scold me, i did not go back to the gym. but that is because i had to spend extra time at work and i decided to instead stay in a cook up a storm to prepare me for the week.
i spent $130 at the grocery store buying all kinds of delicious and healthy foods. i even took my "points tracker" with me and whipped it out here and there to calculate precisely what i would be buying. go me!
( today's foodstuffs, sorry no photos! )
so yes, i cooked and cooked and didn't even eat what i made!
i made a giant vat of zero-point vegetable soup (yummmy!) i also made what is called a beef vegetable casserole that is almost like lasagna from the small bit i tasted. only no noodles. i think next time i would add in some spinach and instead of roasting the tomatoes, i would include canned diced tomatoes for a little extra flavor.
i had planned on making the stuffed zucchini for lunch tomorrow, but because i will be out of my office all morning and didn't want it to sit in my car all that time, i decided to make that tomorrow to take to work wednesday. i only have to saute up some mushrooms, tomatoes, garlic and something else i don't remember right now.
what else did i buy? i stocked up on low fat soups as those are always good in a pinch. i also bought some frozen dinners just to have on hand. i have a bunch in the freezer at work as that's what i've been eating for lunches, but i worry about all that sodium. so i bought some low-fat bread (THAT takes getting used to) and tuna in case i feel like something different. i also bought two bags of salad, one for here, one to take to work. the ingredients for the DELICIOUS strawberry-vanilla shake (good snack or breakfast at only 2 points). some low point wildrice (yum!), brown rice, a few lower point noodle bowls i can add veggies to, a bunch of apples, a couple pomegranates (mmmmmmm), and a whole slew of veggies.
to wit: i feel prepared to have plenty of healthy things on hand to snack on, cook up, or prepare when i don't feel like cooking. i guess you call those staples. now i just need to eat the leftover veggies before they go bad - for some reason that's always a problem for me. i was much better about only buying what i thought i needed today. so hopefully that will work out.
(HAVE I MENTIONED HOW HAPPY I AM ABOUT THAT TRADER JOE'S SOUP?!? YUM!) |

| look who is back (AGAIN) |
[Nov. 12th, 2007|09:31 am] |
well the past month has been extremely stressful and i have not taken care of myself at all. fast food after fast food after fast food. running all over the place for work and being in a mental/emotional funk led to a lot of stress and overeating. and weight gain. BOO!
so today is the day i start ww and the gym again. having recently been cleared by the cardiologist for exercise, and teaming up with my brother and one of my closest pals for WW, i really think it'll work this time.
this morning i started by throwing out some not-so-healthy food from my cabinets. after that i made myself a spinach, shrimp, and egg white omlette. today i have to go to my office for a few hours, but then i'm going to go to the grocery store, hit up the new gym, and then come back home and cook up some zero point soup and a casserole to last me the next few days. i think i'll also make some of those feta stuffed zucchinis to take for lunch tomorrow.
you know what i've missed a lot during my totally and complete crash off the "wagon?" cooking. this morning as i made my omlette i thought to myself how nice it was to be back in the kitchen cooking. i just need to find a way to motivate myself to cook things when i'm tired after work (and after the gym). i think once i get in the habit, i'll be okay. i'll also keep some "quick meals" on hand, frozen ww dinners and things i can just add a bunch of veggies too. if i do that and continue cooking up big batches of things on the weekends, i think i will be okay.
how do you guys conquer the "i'm too tired to cook tonight" problem and still maintain healthy eating? |

i am sloooowly getting back on track - don't disappear on me! i need your support more than ever!
i gained a little of the weight back, but not all of it. since sunday i have lost 1.8 pounds. i think i'm going to go to the meeting tonight as well. get back into meetings. though i dislike my meeting person and she's going to give me greif that i'm back AGAIN. the meetings are helpful though. they keep you accountable as nobody wants to be UP the next week ;)
turns out my gym is NOT closing after all. they "partnered" with or were bought out by another local fitness center. i have to wait until monday to see what the heart doc says before i can work out, but i'm excited to get back to it!
so i'm coming back here. slowly but surely. Washington DC and general blah allowed me to blow this off far too easily, as is always the case. but i'm coming back baby!
i'll probably cook up some ww tasties on sunday, keep an eye out for raves and recipes! |
